East Bridgewater – Robert L. Summers 84, died Saturday October 19 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Brony (Chesnauskas) Summers.

Born in Allentown, PA he was the son of the late Wesley and Josephine (Worth) Summers.

He was a proud veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army from 1951-1953.

Prior to his retirement, Robert had worked in research and development for the U.S. Government at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama for over 30 years.

He enjoyed traveling and spent many years in Florida as well.

In addition to his wife Brony he is survived by his brother Frank Summers of CT as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Michael Bannister.

A private burial was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Shawn P. Brawders Sr. 58, of E Bridgewater died unexpectedly November 2, 2013. He was born in Brockton and was the son of the late John J. and Nathalie (Fay) Brawders. He had been a longtime painter working various places throughout the area.

He is survived by his son Shawn P. Brawders Jr. and daughter Tyler N. Brawders both of Middleboro; his sisters Jacquelyn Sullivan of E Bridgewater and Susan Hokanson of W Bridgewater and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Timothy F. Brawders.

Mark E. Fortier, 62, of Bridgewater passed away unexpectedly November 14, 2013 at Brockton Hospital. He was born in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School before moving to Bridgewater where he remained until his death. He was the son of the late Henry and Gloria (Humphrey) Fortier also formerly of Bridgewater.
For 27 years he worked as a forklift operator for Hermans in Avon and then warehouse distributor for Harte Hanks in E. Bridgewater working for 10 years and retiring 5 years ago. Mark was a quiet man who enjoyed people and good conversation with all he met. He especially was fond of his friends at the Bridgewater Police Department, who always felt he missed his calling to law enforcement.
Mark is survived by his sisters Sharon Tozier and her husband John and Michelle Rose and her husband Jim, his brother Mike Rebel Fortier and his wife Jill of Vermont as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Per his request, Mark will be cremated with services at a later date.

Wallace “Wally” E. Ellis, Jr., age 65, of Kingston, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 28, 2013.

He lived most of his life in Bridgewater with his beloved wife of 25 years, Charlene (Glass) Ellis, before relocating to Kingston.

He was born on July 28, 1948 in Brockton, MA to the late Ogenia “Jean” (Rosa) & Wallace Ellis, Sr.. He was an owner of D&W Heating formerly of Bridgewater for 15 years, before retiring and also worked for Faria Oil in Stoughton.

He is survived by his four children and two step-children: Kaylee Cappella of Plymouth; Wallace Ellis III & Cathy of Taunton; Kathleen Peltz & Michael of Bridgewater; Sheri Yurkins & Gary of Raynham; Michelle Besarick & Bill Holbrook of Rockland; and Michael Gento & Angela of East Bridgewater. He was blessed with and survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Randy Ellis & Terri of Bridgewater; Steve Ellis & Suellen of Lakeville. He was the brother of the late Rita Maxim & her surviving husband Jerry Maxim of Middleboro.

Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, December 5, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 PM.

Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston, on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at the Scotland Cemetery, Route 104, Bridgewater.

Ruth I. (Simmons) Macdonald, age 82, of Bridgewater, died peacefully, December 2, 2013 at her home. Ruth was born, raised and educated in Brockton, daughter of the late James C. and Irene P. (Conefrey) Simmons. She had been employed by Max Wind Shoe Company, South Weymouth Savings Bank, and retired at the age of 76 from the Bridgewater Senior Center. Ruth was a strong willed, loving and caring woman who enjoyed raising her grand and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Lorrie J. Wood; three grandchildren Shawn Lawson, Kendra-Leigh Silva and Ashley Silva; two great grandchildren Kenny G. Cherenfant, Jr. and Serenity I. Cherenfant; three brothers Wesley E., Raymond C. and Paul H. Simmons and his wife Helen and several nieces and nephews.

Robert J. Hinglebine, 88 years, of Brockton, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health. Bob was the devoted husband of Madeleine (Beliveau) Hinglebine. Born, raised and educated in Brockton, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Emma (Bousquet) Hinglebine, Sr. Bob was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy, as a Seaman First Class, stationed in Pensicola, FL. Following the war he was employed for 15 years by Century Manufacturing as a presser and was then employed as a Clerk by the Brockton Post Office for 24 years retiring in 1988. Bob enjoyed bowling and had been a former member of the City Candlepin and Merchant Leagues. He was a longtime communicant and volunteer of Sacred Heart Church and also enjoyed spending time with friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Herbert Hinglebine, Evelyn Stoufflet, Harold L. Hinglebine, Jr. and Phyllis Dearth.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday from 2-5pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8:30 am for a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater at 9:30am followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:30 am.

Lucy M. (Carrozza) Crocker, age 84, of Easton, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Morton Hospital. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria N. (Colombo) Carrozza. Lucy was a 1947 graduate of Brockton High School and for many years was a waitress at the Capeway Manor. She was a generous and giving person who loved spending time with her family; was an animal lover, especially of dogs and monkeys, and loved the American flag. Lucy was also an avid golfer who spent many hours at Strawberry Valley Golf Course; an avid card player and enjoyed the beach, dancing, bowling, and listening to Frank Sinatra. Lucy is survived by three children, Gail Quarterley of Apache Junction, AZ; Kenneth R. Crocker of East Bridgewater and Kathi Carey of Wrentham; three grandchildren Meagan Quarterley, Celeste Carey and Ross Carey; a sister Angelina Melchionda of Sandwich and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony, James, Michael, Henry, Daniel and Pasquale Carrozza. Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 5-8pm. Francis R. of Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, February 5, 2014 at the age of 95. Formerly of Brevard, NC, Pukalani, Maui, HI, and Arlington, MA. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Conger) Nitchie and brother of the late George Nitchie. He is survived by his sons, John, Carl, and Kenneth Nitchie and his daughters, Mary Smith and Beth Campbell. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Mistie Campbell. A graduate of Middlebury College, he was an Optical Engineer who worked for the Underwater Ordinance Research Laboratory in State College, PA, 1945-1959, Harvard Astrophysical Observatory from 1959-1961, and ITEK Corporation from 1961-1974. He retired in 1983 from Lockheed Corporation in Maui, HI where he worked in the Haleakala mountain astronomical observatory. In 1991, he moved to Brevard, NC and in 2007 moved to The Arbors at Taunton. A Memorial Service will be held in the future at the Wilmington United Methodist Church. Pocasset – Kevin T. Sullivan 73, of Pocasset and Fort Myers, FL, formerly of East Bridgewater, died Wednesday February 5 in Fort Myers, FL. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Maryann (Welch) Sullivan. Born in Brockton he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Mary Ellen (Hamrock) Sullivan, and a graduate of Coil High School in Taunton. Prior to his retirement he had worked for over 38 years as an equipment installer for Verizon, and during his retirement had served as a “Starter” for the Cape Cod Country Club. Kevin had been an active resident of East Bridgewater for over 40 years where he and his wife Maryann had lovingly raised their 4 children. He was a communicant of St. John’s Church and a member of the Commercial Club and the Lions Club where had served as “King Lion” and had been the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the highest form of recognition given for exemplary service to his club and community. He was a talented and avid golfer and during his 20 years residing in Pocasset, he had truly loved his many days spent fishing and clamming. Most recently, he along with his wife Maryann had enjoyed “wintering” at their home Fort Myers, FL. In addition to his wife Maryann his is survived by his loving children Kevin Sullivan and his wife Emily, James Sullivan and his husband John Caro, Barbara Lowell and her husband John all of East Bridgewater, and Suzanne Sullivan of Hingham, his brothers Stephen Sullivan of Brockton and Francis Sullivan of East Bridgewater, his sisters Noreen “Pat” Flynn and Theresa Savignana both of Brockton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Molly, Daniel, Katie, Zachery, Stephanie and Kevin as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John, Daniel, and James Sullivan and Mary Johnson. His services will be held Wednesday February 12 at 9 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a 10 AM funeral mass at St. John Church, East Bridgewater. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday February 11 from 3-7 PM. Claudette A. (Savard) Bruni, age 75, of Kingston, formerly of East Bridgewater and Avon, died on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Albert & Albertine Savard. Claudette was a graduate of Avon High School, class of 1956. She worked at Columbia Electric Supply in Brockton, where she met her future husband, Albert. She went on to work at the Goddard Hospital in Stoughton in the physical therapy department as a secretary. Claudette loved cooking, reading and travelling extensively all around the world. In retirement, she devoted her life to her family. Claudette was the beloved wife for 55 years to Albert Bruni; devoted mother of Michael Bruni & his wife Tammy of Kingston; loving grandmother of Michael, Brian and Nicole; dear sister of the late Pauline Marchand Boyd. TAUNTON – Adelina B. (Melo) Chaves, wife of the late Antonio R. Chaves, died at Longmeadow of Taunton on Feb. 18, 2014. She was 87. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Alexandrina (Batista) Chaves Melo. Mrs. Chaves moved to this area in 1982. A homemaker for most of her adult life, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons, Jose B. Chaves and his wife Fatima, and Antonio Chaves and his wife Ines, all of East Bridgewater; two daughters, Maria H. Sousa and her husband Jose, and Heriqueta Braga, all of Taunton; a brother, Jose Batista of the Azores; a sister, Ines Chaves of Canada; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Feb. 22nd at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. East Bridgewater – Jay E. Williams 69 of East Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman, passed away on Monday February 24 at Sachem Center for Health and Rehabilitation, East Bridgewater following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Nancy G. (Schlieff) Williams. Born August 15, 1944 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Arthur B. and Ellen L. (Driscoll) Williams and was a member of Whitman-Hanson High, Class of 1963. Jay was Park and Tree Foreman at the Whitman Department of Public Works for 33 years. Jay was a thoughtful and generous person, always ready to lend a hand. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jay’s sense of humor was legendary. He loved to joke and laugh and was also known to be a good cook and host. He loved animals and wildlife and traveling all over North Country always hoping to “spot a Moose”. In addition, he was a Red Sox and Patriots fan. Jay was the loving father of Jason N. Williams and his wife Vanessa of Thompson, Ct. He is also survived by his large and loving family of brothers and sisters, Arthur Williams and his wife Connie of Ellenton, FL, Donald Williams and his wife Anna of East Bridgewater, Robert Williams and his wife Pat of Gardnerville, NV, Richard Williams and his wife Dottie of Zephyrhills, FL, Carol Williams of Albany, NY, Jerry Williams and his wife Donna of Whitman, Ruth Woodbury of Rockland, Ellen Montague and her husband David of Gardnerville, NV, Jean Franciosi of Bradenton, FL and Ted Williams of Sparks, NV. He was the brother of the late Gloria Fent of NV. He is survived by many dear nieces and nephews. Jay also leaves behind two lifelong friends, Dennis Chick and Lee Meinhold. Jay touched many throughout his life and will be greatly missed. Donald A. Foster, age 81 of East Bridgewater, passed away on Saturday March 15th, devoted husband, loving father of five and “Papa” to two generations of grandchildren. Donald was a carpenter and a Korean War veteran. He worked as a house builder since the age of 16 and then for Norwood Hospital as a carpenter for over 30 years before retiring at age 78 to care for his beloved wife. Donald is survived by his wife Valerie (Wile) Foster, his children Susan Foster, Sally Fredette, David Foster and daughter-in-law Denise, Allen Foster and daughter-in-law Becky, Donna Johnson and son-in-law Mark, their children and their children’s children, his sisters Marie King and brother-in-law Russell, Florence Curley and Shirley Staples also many nieces and nephews. Per Donald’s wishes, services will not be held. In lieu of flowers “go home to your families, get lots of fresh air and don’t ever grow old.”

James “Jim” Scribner Gilson, 78 of East Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman, MA died unexpectedly on March 20th. Born on December 31, 1935, to the late Clarence and Ruth Gilson, he was husband of the late Jean Elaine Gilson of Whitman and the late Ede (McClellan) Gilson of East Bridgewater. He leaves behind a sister Marjorie Gilson Bonnivier of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Gilson. He was the loving father of Peter Gilson and wife Janice of Whitman, Darlene Gilson of Whitman, Douglas Gilson and wife Cathy of Plymouth, Jeffery Gilson and wife Debbie of Indiana and Gregory Gilson of Plymouth. Other sons and daughter include Skip Tobin, William Tobin, Thomas Tobin, Henry Adam Mitchell and Kathleen Fuller and the late Henry Everett Mitchell and the late Allen Mitchell. He will be missed by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He worked in the automotive industry for many years. He enjoyed traveling, spending time in his RV and snowbirding in Florida. He loved tinkering with computers, taking and sharing photos of family and friends. He enjoyed making greeting cards for family and friends. He enjoyed socializing with the girls at the Hanson Senior Center and daily breakfast with his friends at Millie’s Restaurant but took the most enjoyment spending time with his family. Relative and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Friday March 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made to the Hanson Senior Center, 132 Maquan Street, Hanson, MA 02341

Miss Melisa M. Patnaude-Cronin, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 19 in Morton Hospital. She was born 36 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of Cory L. and Patricia J. (Patnaude) Cronin. She was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. In addition to her parents, of Taunton, she leaves: 2 daughters: Caitlynn MacKinnon of Bridgewater and Kalie MacKinnon of Taunton; 1 brother: Cory L. Cronin, Jr. of Shirley, and several nieces and nephews. Melisa was also the sister of the late Tracie M. Dyer of Fall River. Visiting Hours will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, March 22 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will follow at 8:00 P.M. Joseph S. Micciche, Sr., age 75 of Brockton, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center following a period of failing health. He was the loving husband for 52 years of Elizabeth M. (Fuce) Micciche. Born and raised in Boston, he was the son of the late Philip and Mary (Sulfaro) Micciche. Joe was a graduate of South Boston High School and had been employed as a Letter Carrier in the Brockton Post Office for over 25 years, and retired from Rockland in 2001. He was an Army Reservist; enjoyed time with his family; and watching New England sports teams, especially the Patriots. In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by three sons, Joseph Jr. and his wife Paula of Raynham, Michael of South Weymouth and Mark and his wife Lenore of Taunton; four grandchildren Zachary, Dylan, Jacob, and Margaret “Maggie”; his twin brother Nunzio “Nunny” of Rockland and sister Stella Albison of Carver. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late James Wade. Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 9am for a funeral mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater at 10am. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
